COFFEE cartoons- of the official drink of The Back Pew and the approved sermon aid (keeping partitioners awake) in churches worldwide. Psalm 118:24, says, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” In The Back Pew we add… but first coffee.

CHURCH COFFEE is a staple in almost all Christian gatherings, and so it goes without saying that there will be COFFEE CARTOONS in the Back Pew focusing on the church, the Christian Faith, and… HEAVEN where the coffee is… Heavenly.

Coffee may not be a deep theology, but it is practical and social. It’s less about the brew and more about the chit-chat and fellowship.

Coffee… is about fellowship and is reasonably cheap, easy, and, again… keeps folks awake after early mornings followed by long messages.

Coffee Quality will vary. Visiting a Big church might offer espressos, lattes, and more —while smaller churches may roll with an aluminum drum percolator and still call it coffee. Church coffee strengths range from: weak-bleak-medium-strong to burnt.

Church coffee is a symbolic of Fellowship, but often tastes like something less.

Outside of and probably including most Sunday Sermons more deep
spiritual conversations/gossip happen around a cup or four of church coffee.

So when did coffee become associated with church life? American churches leaned into it as suburban culture grew and coffee was the glue. <— it rhymes.

Now it’s global. You can pair it with donuts, and refills are free (unless it is a specialty coffee, then pony up bucko). Coffee is not in the Bible, but Acts 2:42 mentions believers sharing meals and time, and hey that must mean coffee. And, and… of course, there is the horrible Bible pun… Hebrews, get it? He brews.
