Easter cartoons - The tomb is empty, Jesus is risen, Death is defeated, and SALVATION IS HERE!
Easter Sunday is when we celebrate Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead, which occurred three days after his crucifixion.
That first Easter Sunday completed the Holy Week, which started seven days earlier with Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. From the triumphant entry, the Last Supper, Jesus Crucified on Friday, but now Jesus is resurrected on Easter Sunday morning.
Oh, there was the scandal that the disciples stole Jesus’ body in the night, but having the tomb guarded by two Roman soldiers seems to make that a stretch. The guards did later take a bribe from the Jewish Priests to say they were asleep.
But in the morning the stone was certainly rolled away, the tomb was empty, and there were two angels to greet the two women who entered the tomb with words “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!” Luke 24:5-6. That same morning Mary Magdalene witnessed the empty tomb, John 20:1, told Peter and John, who raced to the tomb, also to find it empty. Jesus did then appear to Mary Magdalene, John 20:11-18, then to his disciples, John 20:19-23, then to Thomas, John 24:29.
It is also recorded the story of two women walking on the Road to Emmaus and as they talked, Jesus joined in walking with them but they did not recognize Him, until the end of their walk, then revealed himself, but then disappeared.
In total I believe the Bible records 11 or 12 times Jesus appeared after His resurrection.
After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it. Mark 16:19
HOLY WEEK: Palm Sunday

GONE FISHIN’ Afterward Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples went out to fish but caught nothing. Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but they did not realize that it was Jesus. He called to them, How’s the fishing?” “No fish at all” they answered. Jesus then said “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.
Then John said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish. When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it and some bread.
Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” They had caught 153 large fish. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. …This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.
Jesus commanded His Disciples “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
Disclaimer: Once again I am limited by my medium of cartooning to do justice to the beautiful Easter story, and the message of the Holy Week. My motto of Clean Humor and God’s Truth is not what God’s Salvation Story deserves, BUT it is what I do so I pray you see the Easter cartoons as light moments on this day of rejoicing that our savior is Jesus Christ.
