** CHURCH COFFEE **
Now this is the topic that most churches can appreciate, and… grimace at. You see, coffee has been a big
part of my Christian Church Heritage. A very significant pastor I remember at my home church in my youth
was T. Wayne Larson, and his wife Ruth (no relation). They had the gift of coffee. I remember them calling
up my folks and asking.. "Is the coffee on?" Of course, my folks needed very little reason to put on a pot of
coffee. Great memories, and friendships and my parents home revolved around the coffee pot. Their motto
was BREW UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM BREW UNTO YOU!

Now of course these were the days before gourmet coffee, and no coffee shops anywhere especially rural
Wisconsin. Now let me also clarify that many families drink coffee, but.. if the coffee is weak.. it was frowned
upon in my house. My parents drank it very strong., and they scoffed at those who watered down their coffee.
Those people were mere children.

Then there is another coffee.. CHURCH COFFEE. Now typically it was brewed in a large silver drum that
looked like it could have once stored 5 gallons of gasoline at one time. There are two further comments I
would like to make about CHURCH COFFEE. 1. It was weak… 2. I am not sure when (IF EVER) these
silver drums were cleaned out. So CHURCH COFFEE in my opinion symbolizes 'friendship', but… BUT…
I would never serve my friends this coffee. http://thebackpew.com/backpew/0_ch_coffee.htm

Another church fashion statement I want to remember was… THE LEISURE SUIT!! First of all, I want to
be clear, I never wore a leisure suit ( I did however have a few disco shirts). Now fashions come and go,
but.. THE LEISURE SUIT…is simply gone. Too much polyester to be draped over a body. But.. this brings
me to another oddity about husbands and wives. Simply put.. what bothers wives… rarely bothers husbands
until he realizes he has just wandered back out onto THIN ICE!

One last area for the day is… the irony that in the Larson household, the men have trouble finding things that
they may have placed SOMEWHERE in the state they live in, and it is the job of the wife/mother to find
these wandering items. I must admit, I try so hard to find a missing item before saying sheepishly… "Honey,
do you know where my keys, or shoes, or the tv remote is. I hate to ask because my wife will typically point
at it without moving or speaking. http://thebackpew.com/backpew/0_mrg_wearthat.htm When I was a first
grader I remember asking other kids if they say my baseball cap? They all looked at the top of my head,
smiled, and said.. "no, I can't help you." Of course the hat was on my head.

So I guess I have covered the SACRED SACREMENT OF COFFEE in the today's church… and more of
the mystery we call marriage.

My prayers are that you have a wonderful day… and that God's blessing in your life is more than you can
imagine.
